“What is there to do at home? … It’s finally the weekend.” With a new story and performance every time, Weekend Theater does not fail to impress.
It’s the stage where artists are given a chance to express their creative work and a space for tired audiences to be lifted of their spirits—Weekend Theater in Munrae-dong, Seoul. Since 2014, Weekend Theater has presented works covering the diverse genres of theater, polygonal art, and exhibitions every Saturday.
On weekdays, it is where photographer Yokko continues his photography work, and on the weekends, it transforms in to a theater under its leader, Han Seung-youn. Going back and forth from studio to theater, Weekend Theater runs on a season basis and is approaching its 7th season set for March 24th-June 30th. Many people make their way to the for its experimental and unorthodox repertoire of performances.
All performances are free of cost but after a show, audiences are invited to donate by a system of payment by impression. Many of the aspects to a good show such as planning, publicity, and filming, are covered by the generous contributions of the Weekend The Theater’s various leaders to provide quality performances for guests.
“Anyone can perform, anyone can enjoy the show”; in the words of the leader announcing no barriers to those who want to enter the Weekend Theater, the stage has truly become a place for everyone.
