Nexus 7 is Google’s official tablet

Asus produced Nexus 7 is Google’s official tablet, the internet search giant unveiled it at its Google I/O Conference 2012 in San Francisco.

The 7 inch tablet comes with a high definition resolution of 1280×800 pixels and supports 1080p video playback.

The tablet will run Google’s latest mobile operating system Android Jelly Bean which was previewed at the Google I/O conference as well.

Google boasts their tablet has more efficient battery usage measuring over 8 hours of video playback or 10 hours of e-reading or web browsing, the tablet comes loaded with a 4325 mAH battery.

Google earlier also announced Jelly Bean also known as Android 4.1 has been revamped to use battery power more efficiently.

The Nexus 7 owns a 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad Core Processor including a 12 core GPU, the tablet was designed with gaming in mind Google noted.

“The Tegra-3 chipset, with a quad-core CPU and 12-core GPU, makes everything, including games, extremely fast. And best of all, it’s only 340 grams, lighter than most tablets out there,” posted Andy Rubin, Senior Vice President of Mobile and Digital Content.

The Asus produced tablet further owns a Micro USB port, 1GB of RAM and a 1.2 megapixel front facing camera.

The tablet comes built in with GPS, a gyroscope, an accelerometer and is W-Fi enabled.

“Nexus 7 was made for Google Play, so all the entertainment you love right in your hand: the world’s largest collection of eBooks, millions of songs, thousands of movies and TV shows, and a growing selection of magazines–plus over 600,000 apps and games,” Google described its tablet.

The device although doesn’t have an expandable memory slot nor a back camera but does come in sizes of either 8GB or 16GB.

The Nexus 7 weighs 340 grams and has a soft textured back cover with the words Nexus and Asus imprinted on it, a scratch resistant corning glass for the screen adds to the package.

“Nexus 7 was built to bring you the best of Google in the palm of your hand. Hang out with up to 10 friends on Google+ using the front-facing camera, browse the web blazingly fast with Chrome and, of course, crank through your emails with Gmail,” Rubin described. <Cihan>
