KORAIL starts tour program titled “Railgreen”

“Do you know Railgreen?”

Those who plan their train tour to the farming area this summer, come to take a special bonus. KORAIL (Korean National Railroad) began ticket sales from July 28th on the basis of the MOU it signed with eight local self-governing bodies such as Kimcheon City, Sancheong County, Suncheon City, Yanggu County, Yongin City, Chungju City, Chulwon County and HongSung County to operate ‘Railgreen’, a train trip to experience farming villages.

-What is Railgreen?
“Railgreen is a name of package trip by train, trailored to let people experience the living in farming or fishing villages. KORAIL operates it in partnership with the Rural Development Administration and 8 local self-governing bodies. Those participating in the tour can also look around ciltural assets in respective region. Railgreen is a good-natured tour product through which customers can do farming & fishing village experience and farming & fishing village residents can get their economic benefit.

-How often and when the tour program will operated and how much is it?
“Except for Lunar New Year’s Day and Thanksgiving Day, the one-day tour program is operated on all weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) throughout the year. It already started on July 29th and its fares are set flexibly depending on region, experience and tour pattern.”

-What kind of programs are the concerned local cities preparing?
“Happy travel along with medicinal herb program” by Sancheong County, “Suncheon Bay slowness trip” by Suncheon City, “Different colour’s flavor and grace” in case of Yongin City and “DMZ experience” in case of Chulwon County are being prepared. The eight local cities were selected in consideration of various factors involving the quality of the program they forwarded and the distance between the train stations and their program sites.”

-Do you plan to expand Railgreen in the days to come?
“Yes. KORAIL plans to develop and improve the quality of the program in partnership with the Rural Development Administration. Of course, the number of destinations in the tour program will also be increased in the years ahead.”
