Some music critics in Indonesia predicted the Hallyu Wave would be over soon, but it doesn’t seem to be correct.

After Mblaq’s successful concert in their tour of “The Blaq” in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, on June this year, Indonesian Hallyu fans were also entertained by another Korean Boy Band, Big Bang, who just also recently held a concert this month in Jakarta.

The Hallyu Wave first hit Indonesia with the dramas that were aired in Indonesian national television channels.

Sad and touching drama series such as Endless Love starring Song Hye-Kyo and comedy drama, Full House also starring Song Hye-Kyo and Korean famous male singer, Rain, made Indonesian viewers addicted to Hallyu.

Not long after the Korean Drama’s Wave, the K-Pop or Korean Pop Music started to strike Indonesian music lovers with their easy listening songs and distinct sense of fashion style.

Oppa Gangnam Style song by Psy also set a new trend in Indonesian youngster societies. They song is playing everywhere in the night clubs and they posted their videos singing and doing the Horse Style Dance.

In one of a province in Indonesia, they even broke a new national record of attracting the most participants doing the Oppa Gangnam Style Dance.

The Hallyu wave could be seen as bringing another competitor to the Indonesian Film and Music industry.

The Korean artists could be seen as competing with Indonesian artists to win the hearth and mind of Indonesians.

But this is not the case for Indonesia. It seems like Indonesian artists are open to the foreign culture and even embraced it and got inspired by Hallyu.

Numbers of new girl bands and boy bands started to adopt Hallyu’s hair and fashion style for their stage performances.

As long as Korean artists are coming up with innovative and entertaining pieces, Indonesians artists and fans would enjoy and welcoming the Hallyu Wave in their country.
