The AsiaN, the Internet news portal covering diverse Asian issues, made its debut on a recent issue of Turkish bi-monthly magazine Cihan Dergi published by Cihan News Agency.

The title of the article by Alpago Sinasi, correspondent for Cihan News Agency in Korea says “through The AsianN network, we will tell our story in Turkish.” The AsiaN has been published by the Asia Journalist Association(AJA) since November, 2011. It has English, Korean, Chinese and Arabic versions, and is scheduled to open Turkish version within this year.

The article described The AsiaN as “standing for Next, News, Network and covering not only political, economic, social and cultural issues but also varied cultures in Asia.” It has received considerable hits from the Internet users including the AJA members in South East Asia and Arabic countries.

The AsiaN is eager to expand journalistic network throughout Asia by strengthening exchanges among various press organizations,” explained Alpago Sinasi. He told “as a strategic initiative, The AsiaN has been drawing a language map by adding language versions. Languages such as Hindu, Vietnamese, Malay, Urdu will be one by one.”

The article put an emphasis on the fact that The AsiaN intends to convey Asian news from the perspective of Asia, not Western eyes. “Most of the incidents taking place in Middle East are covered by Western media. But it is necessary to look into Asian issues from the Asia’s own viewpoints,” said Alpago Sinasi.

As for the upcoming Turkish version of The AsiaN, Turkish members of the AJA will be in charge of the edition. A Turkish journalist will be stationed at the headquarters of The AsiaN in Seoul, Korea.
