China, Uzbekistan vow to boost strategic partnership

TASHKENT, May 23, 2016 (Xinhua) — President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov (L) meets with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan on May 23, 2016. China is willing to work with Uzbekistan to boost their strategic partnership and open up new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here Monday. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi, who arrived in Tashkent, Uzbekistan for an official visit, on May 23.

During the meeting, two sides exchanged views on topical issues of bilateral relations and prospects of their development to boost their strategic partnership.

Uzbekistan Foreign Ministry announced that two sides confirmed their interest in the fruitful outcomes of Uzbekistan’s presidency in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2015-2016 and in successfully holding the jubilee Summit in Tashkent. The meeting of Foreign Ministers of the SCO Member States, which is being opened, should be an important step in preparation for the Summit.

Chinese minister Wang paid working visits to Astana and Bishkek, before arriving in Tashkent.
