French car producer Renault aims to enter Iran’s car market with new products in collaboration with Saipa Motor Corporation and Iran Khodro Company (IKCO), Mehrnews reports.

Renault’s cooperation with domestic automakers has become the focus of automotive industry activists since many months ago.

Although some had expected Renault would cooperate with only one Iranian domestic automaker, the two Iran’s prominent auto manufacturers Saipa and Iran Khodro insisted on continuing works with the company.

Two Iranian prominent vehicle manufacturers Iran Khodro and Saipa will produce two and three new cars, respectively, in cooperation with Renault, said Fardad Daliri, Deputy Head of The Industrial Development & Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO), also known as IDRO Group, on Saturday.

With implementation of JCPOA, Iran resumed cooperation with European and Asian car makers with the first contract signed between Peugeot and Iran Khodro forming IKAP Company.

The second partnership was between Saipa and Citroen, on which the negotiations are still ongoing and its last meeting was held in Paris.

Iran’s cooperation with Renault is taken into account as a major move during post-sanctions era; French car manufacturer Renault is one of the 10 largest global automakers and the history of its presence in Iran goes back to cooperation with both Iranian manufacturers, when the platform L90 was submitted to Iran Khodro and Saipa for production.
