Egyptian-Sudanese cooperation to achieve self-sufficiency

Egyptian president Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi asserted that there are plenty of opportunities for a cooperation between Egypt and Sudan in agriculture and livestock, which would ensure achieving self-sufficiency and providing food for both countries, in a report by Egyptian local newspaper “Al-Ahram”.

This came as a part of his meeting with a Sudanese delegation including dr. Ibrahim Al-Dekhery, minister of agriculture, and Hussein Abo Sorwal governor of Blue Nile province, the meeting included dr. Hossam Al-din Maghazy, Egypt’s minister of water resources and irrigation, and dr. Salah Al-din Hilal, minister of agriculture, along with Sudan’s ambassador in Cairo.

ِAlaa Youssef, the official spokesman for the president, that the president assured the efforts of  the combined company between the two countries in in reclaiming more than 100 thousand acres in Sudan in a year, to set a standard for the upcoming project in Egypt and Sudan, to be applied to more spaces.

They also emphasized the importance of planting crops that both countries need, and which suits Sudan’s climate, like corn and sunflower, to build a complete society including agriculture and industrial forces, along with livestock that would depend on them.

He also stated that the topic of “Egyptian-Sudanese” company for agriculture that was established on 1976 in order to form stronger ties between Egypt and Sudan was discussed, and they thought how to use it to benefit both countries. The president assured that their livestock and crops would be varied and benefiting for both countries.
