Iran and Afghanistan stress development of Chabahar Port

Iranian top Presidential aide, Akbar Torkan and Afghan Minister of Trade and Industry Homayoun Rasa in a meeting on September 5 stressed development of Chabahar Port, IRNA reports.

During the meeting, Torkan who is also secretary of the Supreme Council of Iran’s Free Trade, Industrial and Special Economic Zones said that development of Makran coastal area is important to Iran.

He added that development of Chabahar Port will facilitate Afghanistan trade with Iran and the region.

Construction of Chabahar –Zahedan-Mashad Railway will provide Chabahar port city with access to railroad, Torkan said.

He said that Tehran is ready to launch production lines for manufacturing Iranian commodities in Afghanistan.

Iran is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan on a joint venture for using the country’s mines, Torkan said.

The Afghan official for his part said that Afghanistan will have access to the Indian market through Chabahar Port.

Afghanistan attaches great importance to development of Chabahar Port, he noted.

Rasa urged using the two countries’ potential to boost cooperation between the two nations.

Afghanistan is keen to develop cooperation with Iran in fields of industry and transit activities, the Afghan minister said.

Rasa also called for launching of production lines in his country for manufacturing Iranian goods that could be exported to the countries in the region.
