Sofia’s only Mosque is being restored

Turkish cooperation and development agency (TIKA) started the restoration of Kadi Seyfullah Efendi Mosque (Banya Basi Mosque) , which was damaged after an earthquake in Bulgarian capital city of Sofia.

Assistance Bulgarian Mufti of Muslim Population Murat Pingov said that the mosque would be restored completely. He added that now the worksite was being prepared for the experts from Turkey.

“Since it is the only mosque of the city, the mosque will continue its work during the restorations” also said Pigov.

The last main resonations were done in 1920, sponsored by Turkish Ambassador Fethi. The inner side of the mosque was also covered with Turkish ceramics in 2007.

700 people in every Friday and 1000 in every holiday come to Kadi Seyfullah Efendi Mosque, which was built in 1566 by Ottoman Architect Sinan, to pray. <Cihan News Agency>
