Pakistan’s Film Nominated for First Oscar

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the renowned journalist and the documentary maker, has nominated for Oscar with her film ‘Saving Face’.

Her film has become the first Pakistani to win Oscar nominee in the short-subject documentary category.

In the interview with the Pakistani English-language newspaper, she said.

“I personally feel that acid attacks are the worst form of violence, I stuck to the idea and was determined to show the world the process woman goes through after this hideous act. I would also like to thank the women for the resilience, patience and dedication they showed throughout the filming of this documentary.”

She also told the BBC. “It has reaffirmed my belief it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, if you put quality work out there, it will be appreciated. I hope I can make Pakistan proud by bringing home an Oscar.”

‘Saving Face’ details the cruel practice of men attacking the women in Pakistan with acid. In this documentary, there are two women from South Punjab who became the victims of the acid violence.

Sharmeen who already has made several documentary films, won an Emmy awards from US television in 2010 for her documentary Pakistan: Children of the Taliban.

The film, ‘Saving Face’ is set to be released in March this year, while the Oscars will be held on February 26.
