Prison terms confirmed for ex-medical students

The Supreme Court has upheld prison sentences issued by lower courts on two former medical students of Korea University convicted of sexually harassing a drunken female classmate in May last year.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court confirmed a 30-month prison term for a 24-year-old man surnamed Park. He was convicted of groping, filming and taking pictures of her body using his mobile phone and digital camera.

The court also upheld an 18-month jail term for another, identified as his surname Bae, who convicted of sexually harassing her with Park.

Additionally, the court backed the lower court’s judgment that the two men’s identities and personal information be disclosed on the Internet for three years.

The case dates back to May 21, 2011, when the two men and a fellow student surnamed Han, all from the medical school at the nation’s prestigious university, went on a field trip to Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, along with other class mates.

In their accommodation, the female student drank too much and fell asleep in a separate room.

The three students allegedly followed her into the room, undressed her and touched her body. They shot the scene with a camera and their cell phones.

Han is spending time in prison because he did not appeal the ruling of the lower court that sentenced him to 18 months in prison.
