AJA vice-presidnet Nisthuri wins prize

Kathmandu –Vice-president of Asian Journalists Association and its Nepal Chapter chief Bishnu Nisthuri was decorated with the Dayashanker Palikhe Memorial Award last month.

Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai presented him amidst a special function organized in the tourist city of Pokhara last month.

It is one of biggest journalism prize established from the public.

Nisthuri, who served both as chairman and general secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists had contributed immensely for the freedom of press and democracy during the direct rule of former king Gyanendra.

He was arrested and kept in the custody for days without letting his family members meet him.

The Nepalese journalists were facing different types of problems and the state should introduce a policy to protect journalism, Nisthuri said after receiving the prize from Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai.

He further said that political instability has posed challenges to the media sector and added that the political parties should end the political and economic transitional period to promote media sector in Nepal.
