KOICA built 12 schools for free in Sri-Lanka

After, civil war in Northern part of Sri Lanka, the Korean government built 12 schools for free.

KOICA(Korea International Cooperation Agency), a government aid organization, has spent $5 million to build elementary and secondary schools and additional facilities in Kilinochchi province which is located in the northern part of Sri Lanka.

6662 students in the area has been able to study with this support. New schools are equipped with newly built facilities such as computer room, sink, shower room, bathroom, water tank and others.

Also, KOICA built dormitories for teachers and provided supplies. It also invited teachers and government officials to host a seminar.

In 2010, KOICA was requested by government of Sri Lanka to build schools in Kilinochchi. The civil war has been extremely hard on locals in the area. In 28th, the government of Sri Lanka invited officials from both countries (Sri Lanka and South Korea) and held ceremony for completion.

Sri Lanka was suffered from 26 year of cilvil war (1983~2009) between Tamil tribe which seeks separation and independence. Particularly Kilinochchi area was affected the most because it was ferocious battlefield. Schools, roads, hospitals and infrastructures were demolished due to the civil war.
