Russia to Host CIS Summit in October 2017

A summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will take place in Russia in October 2017, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev said on September 11, Sputnik reports.

Russia will host the summit and will assume the CIS chairmanship, he explained.

“A meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State will be held in Russia in October 2017,” Lebedev told reporters in the Belarusian capital. The CIS is a regional organization formed during the breakup of the Soviet Union, whose participating countries are some former Soviet Republics — Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
