Sangeeta Majumder in multiple shades of Kathak

IMG-20160818-WA0003One of the newest generation Kathak dancers from India, Sangeeta Majumder will be introducing Indian culture through Kathak dance form in an innovative way in Slovakia. Sangeeta whose performance is scheduled on 17th November 2016 at Ars Poetica Festival, Slovakia will be tying up with poet Sonnet Mondal to present a unified dance and poetry presentation named Echoing Shadows. Choreographed by Sangeeta, Echoing Shadows will visually depict a verse story. Her performance will be the prime face of Indian culture in this fest.

Formerly a student at Pandit Birju Maharaj’s ‘KALASHRAM’ academy, Sangeeta represented India as a cultural ambassador to Uruguay and Argentina in 2015. Known for her innovative skills, she is the pioneer of Strings N Steps which has both established itself as a concept and as an Academy. As a concept, it is the first of its kind to amalgamate the tune of Hawaiian guitar with Kathak.  As an Academy, Strings N Steps is in its fifth year and hosts the Strings N Steps music and dance festival each year. Numerous National and International stars in the field of music and dance have shared the stage at this festival. The academy which is primarily involved in teaching Kathak to youngsters is in to organize a full-fledged international concert in 2017.

Sangeeta is known to be a traditional dancer with a modern tinge. She has been striving towards modernizing the art of teaching Kathak through the world wide web. In the year 2013, she was appointed as the online and visiting Kathak faculty member of Saaz-O-Awaz, Academy of Indian Music, Toronto, Canada. An advocate on e-learning, Sangeeta will be presenting a talk on various ways of teaching Indian Classical dance in December 2016 at the National seminar on Issues and challenges in Music pedagogy, Jawaharlal Nehru National youth center, Delhi.

Sangeeta’s most recent accomplishments include, ‘Roll of Honour’ from Punjabi University, Patiala in 2015 and the title ‘Nrithya Vilasini’ by Nrithyati Dance Festival, Chhattisgarh in 2016.
