Uzbekistan to establish another free economic zone

A new free economic zone will be established in Urgut district of Samarkand region in Uzbekistan, said the acting president of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his trip to the region, Trend reports.

Mirziyoyev visited Samarkand to review the progress in social and economic reforms in the region, the works carried out in industry, agriculture and social sphere, the National News Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA) reported Oct. 6.

Currently, 40 industrial enterprises function in the industrial zone of Urgut district, which occupies almost 42 hectares.

Carpets and rugs, synthetic fiber, electrical household items and other goods are produced in the industrial zone.

It is planned to implement 78 more projects in 2017 for production of industrial goods in the zone and to create approximately 3,000 workplaces.

Today, there are three free zones offering investors privileges and special opportunities for doing business in Uzbekistan. They are the Navoi free industrial and economic zone established in Navoi region in 2008, the Angren special industrial zone created in Tashkent region in 2012, and the Jizzakh special industrial zone with its branch in Syrdarya district, established in 2013.
