Turkmen urged to strengthen peace, friendship as country celebrates Kurban Bayram

Ashgabat: Every citizen of Turkmenistan considers it an honour to make a worthy contribution to strengthening peace and friendship on the planet and to developing culture and traditions, the country’s president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said as he congratulated compatriots on Kurban Bayram, the Feast of Sacrifice celebrated by Muslims on Sunday across the world.

Turkmen actively develop international cultural and humanitarian ties in the interests of the world community in order to ensure universal security and prosperity, he added.

“The material and spiritual values of the Turkmen people ensure the harmonious development of our modern society. Cultural heritage plays an important role in strengthening peace and friendship between peoples. In this context, our state policy focuses on the enrichment of national traditions, as well as their popularization all around the world,” he said, quoted by the national news agency, TDH.

Turkmenistan pays special attention to the harmonious development of society, successfully implement state programmes aimed at strengthening the material and technical base of all sectors, and, first of all, at ensuring a peaceful and prosperous life of the Turkmen people, he stressed.

“I cordially congratulate you on Kurban Bayram – the holiday homolyzing philosophical and ethical traditions of mankind, honesty, kindness and peacefulness”, Berdimuhamedov said in his congratulatory address.

“In honour of the holy Kurban Bayram, for three days, bright festivities will be held in the Turkmen capital, in all cities and villages of the country. Each family will prepare festive dishes, give a sadaka [charity],” he said.

Last week, President Berdimuhamedov signed the decree to celeberate Kurban Bayram on August 11, 12 and 13, 2019. The day off that fell on Sunday August 11, was replaced by Wednesday August 14.

The country’s institutions, enterprises and organizations, regardless of the form of their ownership, were required to ensure the enforcement of the decree.
