The United Nations (UN) has asked Indonesia to reduce the number of deaths due to traffic accidents. Each year about 32,000 lives are lost due to traffic accidents, according to report by Vivannews.com quoting  Deputy Chief Police Commissioner General Nanan Sukarna.

“The demand to reduce the number of deaths by traffic accidents was presented to me in Monaco when I was there some time ago,” Sukarna told reporters at the Gasibu Field in London on Saturday (Dec. 8).

He explained that the meeting in Monaco will be followed by a meeting in Asia to be held in Bali on December 14. This is a commitment to create an agreement on a safety drive standard in Asia,” Sukarna added.

However, the Vivanews.com further said, this new commitment is not on a concrete steps yet.

From the data presented, Sukarna said 90 percent of the victims were motor-bikers.

In Indonesia, Motor-bikers’ awareness of safety is still very low.
