[Indonesian Report] 3 terror-suspects caught by anti-terror squad

Indonesian Special Detachement 88, a Counter-terrorism Squad, gunned down two terrorist suspects in Solo, Indonesia Central Java Province, on Friday (Aug 31), The Jakarta Globe reported.

The two suspects, identified as F (19) and M (19), were killed on a shooting in the raid by anti-terrosirm squad  Detachment 88.

On Sunday (Sept 2), Kompas, a Indonesian media, reported a confirmation from the Head of Bhayangkari Hospital in Jakarta where the two terrorist suspects’ corpse were autopsied, Brigadier General Agus Prayitno, saying that the autopsy of the two suspects has been done and the result has been handed over to Detachment 88.

But he refused to elaborate on the result of the autopsy.

The corpse of the Solo bombing suspects arrived in Jakarta on Saturday, a day after the night raid by detachment 88 in Solo.

During the shooting, one of Detachment 88 member, First Brig. Suherman, was killed.

On the same day when the two suspects were killed, Detachment 88 caught alive another terrorist suspect in another part of Solo, identified as B.

B is suspected as playing a role in a terrorist attack in a security post and Police Post in Solo. B is not suspected as the mastermind behind the attack. His role was to buy the motorcycle’s license plate used in the terrorist act.

General Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo confirmed on Saturday (Sept 2), that the three suspects are coming from a new terrorist group, despite of the fact that they were ambushed at a location near an Islamic Boarding School owned by cleric Abu Bakar Bashir.

Cleric Abu Bakar Bashir is now serving 15 years imprisonment in Jakarta, for supporting an Islamist Militant Training Camp in Aceh Province in Indonesia.

“Possible links with old [terrorist] groups are still under investigation,” Timur said at Surakarta Police headquarters on Friday night (August 31).

Another report saying that one of the suspected terrorists killed in the shooting incident was a stepson of another terrorist currently serving time in prison, Abu Omar.

F was graduated from Cleric Abu Bakar Bashir’s boarding school and lived in Philippine in 2010 where his stepfather gained support for conducting terrorist attacks including plan to attack Singaporean Embassy in Jakarta.

Indonesian police is now intensified the quest for other terrorist suspects recognized as S, B and R.

Previously, there were 3 attacks towards the security and police posts in Solo within a month. In August 17, there was a shooting in a security post, followed by another shooting on August 18 where two police officers injured. And the last incident was in a police post that killed an officer.
